“Ideology and utopia. The fascination of the original of New Education” new article co-authored by CEDH researcher Joaquim Machado de Araújo

The article underlines the mythical and utopian resonances of the New Education novelty and the characteristics of the ideal society envisioned by this educational movement. The methodology used is based on the reflexive hermeneutic tradition and interprets the some of the key works of the main authors of the movement. The analysis of Alberto Filipe Araújo, Joaquim Machado de Araújo and Angel García del Dujo concludes that New Education is part of a continuum of educational ideas, it radically shifts the focus of pedagogy into the child, at the same time underscoring the belief in the School’s educational and social role.
